Ideal for discomfort caused by large, heavy breasts.
Even if you have no health issues, breast reduction surgery may be a good option—for example, to improve body proportions or following weight loss.
If there is a significant difference in breast size (e.g., due to a congenital condition, surgery, or implants), the smaller breast can be enlarged or the larger one reduced.
If the breast is tubular in shape, for example, or if there is a change on one side following breast cancer, breast reduction surgery in Hanover can be part of a reconstructive procedure.

Large, heavy breasts can place a significant physical and psychological burden on a woman. Surgical breast reduction (mammoplasty) not only provides relief in everyday life—it also noticeably improves body proportions, self-image, and quality of life. At Dr. Limbourg’s practice in Hanover, we specialize in aesthetic and functional breast surgery and support you with experience, empathy, and state-of-the-art technology on your journey toward a new sense of body confidence.
At our practice in Hanover, we have many years of experience in surgical breast reduction. We use only modern, proven techniques that are characterized by aesthetic results, functional improvement, and the highest possible safety. Depending on your findings, skin quality, breast volume, and your personal wishes, we select the appropriate method.
This proven technique is used in particular for very large, heavy breasts. The incision runs around the areola, vertically downward to the inframammary fold, and horizontally along the fold—in the shape of an inverted T. This allows not only for the removal of tissue but also for the breast to be reshaped into a new, youthful form. Despite the extensive lifting, nipple sensitivity is preserved in most cases—as is the ability to breastfeed. With targeted post-operative care, the resulting scars usually become very inconspicuous.
When the amount of tissue to be removed is moderate, it is often possible to avoid making a horizontal incision in the inframammary fold. This method—also known as the Lejour technique—involves only an incision around the areola and vertically downward. It results in a shorter scar while delivering excellent aesthetic results and is suitable for patients with good skin quality and breasts that are not too large.
This technique is used for minor excess volume or slight asymmetry. The incision is circular and made only around the areola. The excess skin is removed and the nipple is repositioned. Advantage: Minimal scarring—ideal for minor corrections or for patients with high aesthetic expectations regarding minimal incisions.
The „internal bra“ technique is not a surgical incision but a supportive shaping technique used in addition to breast lift and reduction procedures. It involves reshaping the breast’s natural tissue and repositioning it deeper within the breast so that it supports the new breast shape from the inside, much like an invisible bra. This results in better shape retention and a lower risk of “sagging,” especially with soft or very elastic tissue—particularly recommended for large breasts or sagging connective tissue.
Thanks to our expertise, we are often able to preserve blood flow and function in the nipple-areola complex—even during more extensive procedures. As a result, it is often possible to breastfeed after breast reduction surgery.
In all procedures, we combine the reduction with an automatic breast lift—the breast becomes not only lighter but also more compact, symmetrical, and significantly more youthful in shape.
